2020 has not been the best year – if not the worst, for most of us and we are all hopeful that this year will be better. One thing that we can all do to make 2021 a better year is to set goals. Setting goals can help us with the future and is also a great way to assess ourselves. If you are not sure on what goals to set, here are 10 goals you can ponder on to kickstart your 2021.
- WORRY LESS
Worrying too much and over thinking about things like what could have been or all your “what ifs” can affect you greatly and can interfere with your day-to-day life. Overthinking may result to being unproductive. To stop yourself from worrying too much, try to keep your mind occupied by watching a movie, playing your favorite game, or run an errand. You can also meditate, do a quick yoga or just listen to your favorite artist. Although worries and doubts are part of our lives, too much is never okay and we must make sure that we don’t abuse our mental health.
- SMILE AND LAUGH MORE
Did you know that it only takes 17 muscles to smile while it takes 43 to frown? This 2020, try to smile and laugh more. Smile at the old lady crossing the street or at the cashier in the grocery store or even at the driver in your bus ride. Smiling is very contagious, and you don’t know the extent of your smile to the people you meet.
- SPEAK MORE
You were hurt by the comment of your colleague with the way you dressed? Tell them. You don’t agree to what a friend told you? Tell them. You want to share an idea during your meeting to your supervisors? Tell them. You feel thankful to the guy who helped you with your grocery bags? Tell them. You are falling in love with the guy you have been talking to? Tell them. Our lives are too short to waste by not speaking our mind. Your mind is beautiful, and your thoughts are to be heard. Speak more and converse more. Weather it is something positive or negative, speak out. There is always a way to tell the things you want to say.
- TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
You can never take care of anybody else if you can’t take care of yourself. Take your time in the shower, prepare a bountiful meal, buy that dress you have been wanting to, watch your favorite Netflix show, leave a toxic relationship. Do anything that makes you happy and make you feel alive. It is one way of taking good care of yourself.
- MANAGE YOUR TIME WELL
Make a list of the things you need to accomplish in a day and set time limit to complete a specific task. Make sure to prioritize task you need to finish first and to take break between tasks. When you do this, you will be more efficient, productive, and may save more time to do other things like hanging out with friends or relatives.
- HANG OUT MORE WITH FRIENDS AND RELATIVES
Making time to meet friends and family is very important. Tomorrow is never promised and you don’t want to regret not being able to spend time with your loved ones. When you have free time, grab a coffee with a friend or take you family out for a dinner. Make sure that you always find time to spend with them.
- GAIN A NEW SKILL
As you grow older, you will always learn a skill or two. There are still things that you are yet to discover in yourself. It maybe playing a piano or learning the guitar or learning to dance or discovering that you can sing. This is the year to gain and discover a new skill!
- BE MORE GRATEFUL
Sometimes, we always ask for more and we don’t appreciate the smallest things. This year, you may want to show gratitude to anybody who shows love and appreciation to you. May it be a friend who treats you for dinner or a stranger who helps you with your shopping bags, saying thank you to your cab driver, or just even thanking the universe for a good day. Showing gratitude goes a long way.
- FULFILL A DREAM
This year is the best year to fulfill a lifelong dream that you have. A dream to travel the world, to start a business, save a million in you bank account, or buy you dream house. This year is the year you can make your dreams come true. Make your dreams happen and turn them into reality.
- SAVE MORE
To become financially stable is what we look forward to that’s why we work hard. To not think of how you will survive the following days is what we want to experience in the future. 2021 is the year for you to start saving more and stop spending your money to things that are not necessary. Make a list of all your expenses in a month and stick to your budget. Avoid indulging in unnecessary things like shopping but also treat yourself once in a while.
Setting goals is easy but to achieve your goals is a different story. Hard work, dedication, discipline and trust in yourself are just few of the things you need to make it happen. Claim that this year, 2021, is your year!
